The future is not just about more money and cooler machines. Humanity has reached an impasse in its civilisational development where our thinking is leading us towards catastrophe. We need new ways of thinking, and new ways of knowing. A great shift in consciousness is required. MindFutures is a place for people who are aware of this problem, and who are passionate about creating change.
I am a futurist. Futures Studies is a fascinating amalgam of different thinkers from multiple fields of enquiry. Futurists include philosophers, scientists, theologians, academics, physicists, feminists, mathematicians, psychologists, economists, bankers, ecologists… One thing that unites us is that we like to think of not of one future, but of possible, probable and preferable futures.
I should mention that not all futurists are like me. My background is in education, my PhD in Policy Studies, focusing upon theories of mind and intelligence. Yet it is the knowledge that I have explored outside of formal education that really defines the way I think about the world and futures. Beginning almost twenty years ago, I explored the frontiers of consciousness by initiating an inner journey into my own psyche. It is what I discovered there which, more than anything, informs what you will find written here by me. That is why, when I write and talk about our futures, I write not only about technology and economics, but about the greater spiritual foundation of humanity.
Without this grounding awareness of our relationship with each other and the world we live in, all talk of futures is but partial.
