Mindfutures :: Marcus Reviews My Reviews

There's nothing quite like a great book, except maybe a great TV series, movie or documentary. In this section I review some of my favourite stuff - with one or two raspberries thrown in for good measure

Milojevic's Educational Futures

Written by Marcus T. Anthony on

In Educational Futures: Dominant and Contesting Visions educational futurist Ivana Milojevic has written a compelling and readable volume. This review provides a brief description of the contents, while giving an overall evaluation of the volume. The text is particularly useful in that it highlights some of the strengths and typical problems with critical futures. The problem that I focus upon in the latter part of this paper is Milojevic’s representation of East and West. (click on "pdf" icon at top right to read full article).

Allan Combs' Consciousness Explained Better

Written by Marcus T. Anthony on 08.02.2010

Consciousness is not a simple thing to understand, but in "Consciousness Explained Better", Allan Combs has done a fine job of simplifying the integral view of mind. The integral view posits that consciousness is multi-faceted, multilayered, cannot be easily reduced and explained, and changes according to the perspective of the perceiver. Largely following the integral philosophy of Ken Wilber, Allan Combs does not argue that consciousness is relativistic and culturally defined, however. Written by Marcus T. Anthony on

Appearing in the Journal of Futures Studies in July 2003, this was the very first academic article I ever published.  Here I analyse techno-utopian futurist Michio-Kaku's book Visions, and find it leaves out some very important parts of the future.
