Mindfutures Reading Synchronicity

The following is an extract from my book Sage of Synchronicity, which will be available from Benjamin Franklin Press Asia, in just a few weeks. You will be able to find it on www.eastwestfutures.com, Amazon and some other online bookstores.

When I began to write the book Sage of Synchronicity, I was living on the fiftieth floor of a high-rise building in Hong Kong. The first weekend I started to write, two kites continuously circled around outside my window. Kites are very large birds which glide about in great circles, effortlessly sailing upon the waves of the air. Time and time again they glided within a few meters of my window. It was as if nature was sending me a message that it was time to fly, to just allow the grace and beauty of Spirit to flow.

But how can anyone be sure of the "meaning" of a synchronicity?

The answer is that there is often no way to be sure. However it is in presence (when the mind is silent and fully present in the moment) that the true beauty of synchronicity can most accurately be sensed and appreciated. In presence, the mind resonates at a higher frequency.

However, when the mind is not present it gravitates towards the lower vibration of hurt pasts and fearful futures. We go into ego. The mind begins to chatter, to complain, to impose meanings upon life events that are perfectly neutral. This is not a good state of mind to be in, if you want to sense the meaning of a synchronicity.

If I had not been fully present, I may have missed the significance of those kites outside my window. In modern science all meaning has been stripped from nature. The idea of the random dominates. At a certain level of consciousness - what I call "the alienated mind" – it certainly looks like this is how the world operates. Due to a long historical process, the alienated mind has become the norm. A big problem is that when the mind is estranged from the world, from Spirit, it cannot perceive the links between events.

Moment to Moment. Finding Spirit in presence

Higher mind and its integrated intelligence is a little like the idea of hyper-space. In sci-fi movies, a spacecraft can move from one point in the cosmos to another by collapsing the space/time between them. It is as if two points in space are folded together within a moment, and the idea of “far” and “near” disappears. Then the spacecraft rematerialises in a second location.

In three-dimensional space/time, where the alienated mind resides, we cannot intuitively perceive the links between things in different times and locations, but we can learn to feel them. Learning to feel deeply, in presence, is the key to accessing integrated intelligence.

Therefore, to determine the “meaning” of a synchronicity, you must allow the silence of presence. If you suspect some event in your life has a synchronistic meaning, simply let go and let the moment to speak to you. Permit the knowing to unfold – via a voice from within, inner images and especially your feelings.

If you get no information, no feelings; and if no meaning comes to you, then that is fine.  Just let it go. The ego likes to impose meaning upon events, typically ones that fit its agenda. When you begin to trouble yourself about the meaning of an event, you immediately go into the mind and lose presence.

And sometimes we forget that presence is just about the most wonderful gift there is. It's too valuable to lose, worrying about whether something has a deeper meaning or not.
